The Leadership & Design Team (LDT) is seeking creative, collaborative thinkers to join this volunteer group, which sets direction for the U/U Global Network. The primary focus of the LDT is fostering deep relationships and sharing leadership within the group. Our members come from communities around the world with varied backgrounds and experiences.
Since 2021, the LDT has been engaged in visionary work to develop collaborative structures that honor the wisdom and diversity of U/U communities worldwide. We are now inviting new members who are called to volunteer to join this journey.
We are looking for global U/U individuals who are:
Grounded in our values. You hold deep respect for the global U/U community and are committed to our core covenant: centering relationships, encouraging participation, finding our path together, and working with intentionality. You understand that lived values matter more than abstract ideals.
Comfortable with co-creative work. You thrive in non-hierarchical spaces where decisions emerge through consensus and wisdom comes from many voices. You are comfortable being in a relationship and truly listening across differences of geography, time zones, culture, theology, and experience.
Culturally humble and globally minded. You bring your own experiences and context to the work, while holding a wider perspective that honors the unique expressions of U/U life around the world. You are sensitive to power dynamics and committed to decentering hierarchy in favor of shared leadership.
Equipped for virtual collaboration. You have reliable internet connectivity and ease with online tools. We meet across time zones, and you have flexibility to show up for our regular gatherings.
As an LDT member, you will help guide the work of the U/U Global Network by:
Discerning together. You will participate in regular LDT meetings (at a mutually agreeable time) where we make decisions by consensus, provide oversight to our Network Facilitators, and stay responsive to the feedback and needs of the wider U/U community.
Co-creating structures. You will work with the team to develop collaborative frameworks that reflect the wisdom of our global community. This includes helping to recruit and onboard new volunteers, paid staff, and supporting the growth of the network.
Connecting and communicating. You will contribute to communication and outreach across the network, helping to share the network's activities, opportunities, and vision with the wider U/U family.
Holding the relationships. You will guide group interactions with sensitivity to power and privilege, helping to ensure that our work remains grounded in our covenant of centering relationships and equity.
This is a volunteer position with some support structures in place. A small annual stipend is provided. We offer some support for internet connectivity costs upon request. There may be opportunity for in-person gatherings and all related expenses are provided. We ask for:
Time commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month, including the twice-monthly meetings and preparation time, with a focus on building relationships.
Term: We ask for a three-year commitment, recognizing that sustained relationships and vision require continuity.
Experience: Each person brings their own experience and expertise. We hope you will share your gifts with us.
Community Involvement: You should be an active member of a local (or online) U/U community, and in good relationship with the larger U/U body in your area if applicable.

If you feel called to become a member of the LDT, we invite you to complete our volunteer form by December 31, 2025. Please tell us about your background, your connection to the U/U community, and why this work speaks to your heart.
The LDT will select 3 new members this cycle. Selection is based on many factors, which may include specific skills or experience, geographic location, and openness to the role.
