Liz Slade has been the Chief Officer of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches in the UK since 2019. She is a founding member of the LDT. Her career started off in medical publishing and healthcare improvement, but her experience of belonging to a Unitarian congregation in her early 30s led her to take a different career path. She worked with a health charity to explore the role of power and agency in communities' health, and then become COO of Sunday Assembly, a global network of secular congregations. She has worked with spiritual innovators who are exploring how to create communities of meaning beyond the boundaries of traditional religion (including in co-designing pilgrimages centred around beloved novels) as well as those who are exploring how to free religious practices from the constraints of their traditional power dynamics. The Unitarian community in the UK is at a time of transformation, as congregations find their place in our changing world, and Liz is glad to explore how these changes resonate with colleagues around the world.
